The restricted earth tone color palette of Melanesian Maori,
and Polynesian tapa bark painters inspired Sami during the
years she lived in these cultures. Hard edge designs of
traditional tapa come from stencil techniques in Fiji,
carved board rubbings in Samoa, free-style painting and
printing in Tonga and Hawaii.
